No BitLocker Drive encryption is only supported on Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions.Ray - Author of Windows 7 for XP Professionals

thanks for the reply, would you recommend an upgrade just for the sake of bitlocker or rather use some third party software that may do the same job?LOGOS001

LOGOS001 That depends on what you expect from the encryption solution, budget and if you plan to user other features in Windows 7 Ultimate/Enterprise. From my own experience I can say that BitLocker Drive Encryption performs very well and has no real issues.Ray - Author of Windows 7 for XP Professionals

a bit of background... I'm using a toshiba qosmio F60 64bit and with win7 x64 home premium. The laptop allows encryption and access lock of the system hard disk at the bios level. what concerns me is that in case my firewall is breached while i am online that my files remain safe and not accessible by an intruder. I was thinking of using a 3rd party soft such as universal shield to protect the Libararies, but what about the rest of apps and system files that may need to be read and written to on and off during use??? Bitlocker seems to offer the protection and as you said without issues. Your input and time are very appreciated thanksLOGOS001
